Services to Users with Disabilities Policy

Policy Statement

The University of Texas Libraries is committed to providing access to our collections and services in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act. Our policy is to provide, whenever possible, arrangements that enable library users with disabilities to work independently.

Assistive technology equipment

Assistive technology equipment is available in the Perry-Castañeda Library (PCL). This equipment includes screen reading software. For a complete list of assistive technology equipment, contact the Coordinator for Services for Users with Disabilities. The equipment in PCL is available to all users who have a need. Priority is given to current UT students.

Access to Print Materials

Users can request materials to be pulled from the stacks by using the Pick It Up function available in the UT Libraries Catalog. Additionally, users may request scans of articles and book chapters through our Get a Scan service available through Interlibrary Services.

Access to Digitized Materials

Eligible students, staff and faculty with print disabilities may access digital versions of titles through the HathiTrust Digital Library. Access includes all books held in HathiTrust collection. Contact the Coordinator for Services for Users with Disabilities with questions.

Research Assistance

Research assistance is available in person, on the telephone and via e-mail to all library users. It is also available via chat to UT-Austin students, faculty and staff. Users who require extend research assistance using assistive technology equipment are encouraged to make an appointment with the Coordinator Services for Users with Disabilities.

Classes and Workshops

Users with disabilities who need accommodations during library instruction sessions, including course integrated sessions and drop-in workshops, should contact the instructor or the Coordinator for Services for Users with Disabilities in advance to make arrangements.
